Our balmy Florida days this month were too frequently booted away by shifts in the Polar Vortex and dips in the Jet Stream. The low of 32 this morning brought this month’s total of freezing temps in Jacksonville to 8. The average number of days is 6. The record for January freezes was set in 1977 when we had 16.

With the retreat of the Polar Vortex to northern Canada during the next 14 days, it appears that may be no more freezing temperatures on the horizon for northeast Florida in February. Long range forecasts indicate about 15 out of 28 days next month will reach 70 degrees or higher.

But just as we tracked the shifts in the Jet Stream and the Polar Vortex in January, we’ll be keeping our eyes open for any changes in the current outlook.
