The pool of Arctic air lies under a dome of high pressure that is centered over Alabama and Georgia. With winds near calm and skies that are cloudless, temperatures could have dropped fall into the teens at most inland locations, high level clouds acted as enough of a blanket to keep most overnight temperatures over northeast Florida and southeast Georgia up in the 20s.

On Tuesday, inland sections of southeast Georgia, such as Alma and Jesup, remained below freezing all day. Until temperatures rise well above freezing by noon on Wednesday, the chill continues to be a threat to the survival of animals and people not sheltered, properly clothed, or located near a heat source.
