NOAA’S NORTH HEMISPHERE JET STREAM HAS A MEAN LOOK.

The long range computer models are wagging the polar jet stream like a dog’s tail! With subzero temperatures stretching across North America from the Canadian Rockies to the St. Lawrence Valley on the morning of January 2, the Polar Jet is forecast to open the flood gate for a wicked surge of Arctic air to plunge southward on Monday, January 6.

The January 3 Arctic push into north Florida will back off over the weekend, but the new surge from the north will knock afternoon temps back into the 30s on Monday afternoon. Bitter northerly winds will be accompanied by subfreezing temperatures for more than 12 hours Monday night and Tuesday morning. Morning lows will range from the mid-teens in southern Georgia and inland portions of northeast Florida to near 20 degrees around Jacksonville. All precautions should be taken to protect exposed water pipes by either a heat source or a slight running of water. Protection will be needed for outside animals, and tender plants should be covered with insulated material, not plastic!

The bitter cold will continue in the 30s most of the day Tuesday! For those in Pasadena for the BCS National Championship game Monday, be sure your water pipes, tender plants, and pets are being taken care of during this unwelcome visit of Old Man Winter from the north!
