WEEKEND’S HEAVIEST RAINS WEST OF LAKE CITY

RAINFALL BETWEEN 8PM EDT FRIDAY AND 8PM EDT SUNDAY
With all eyes on Tropical Storm KAREN in the Gulf of Mexico and Gator and Seminole fans concerned about Saturday’s football games in Gainesville and Tallahassee, the games should be mainly rain-free. On Sunday KAREN’s rains will be moving into southeast Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida panhandle. Only a few showers may dampen the Florida peninsula from Lake City and Jacksonville southward Sunday.

Tropical Storm KAREN has encountered upper level westerly winds over the Gulf of Mexico shearing most of the rain clouds off to the east of the circulation center. This has caused KAREN’s peak winds to diminish to 50 mph. The storm slowed as it passes around high pressure along the southeast U.S. coast. A cold front moving into the Mississippi River valley Saturday should accelerate Tropical Storm KAREN toward the Alabama-Florida panhandle Saturday night and across west Florida into Georgia Sunday afternoon and night.
