This is called ENSO Neutral conditions. So far the 2013 hurricane season resembles El Nino with its upper level shearing. We’ll continue to monitor the EL Nino tendency which can mean a reduction in the number of hurricanes, but it only takes one to cause destruction. In 1983, an El Nino year, hurricane Alicia formed in the Gulf of Mexico and hit the Galveston-Houston area with 115 mph winds.

If the Pacific waters being monitored continue to warm and form an EL Nino, it means above normal winter rainfall for Florida and a colder winter!
