NOAA STILL EXPECTS A BUSY HURRICANE SEASON

The Saharan dust that we have been watching since June has spread across the tropical Atlantic Ocean and reached central America and the Texas coast. It has had a drying effect on cloud development in the tropics and has kept sea surface temperatures slightly lower for this time of year. Nevertheless, NOAA expects this hurricane season to be a busy one. A slight lowering in the May prediction of 13-20 named storms, 7-11 hurricanes and 3-6 major hurricanes. The adjustment was made because of a decrease in the likelihood of a La Nina developing in the Pacific which means wind shear will still affect our storms.2013 Season August Update
