NO STORMS – ONLY TROPICAL WAVES

2013-06-26_074058

Only tropical waves moving westward on the bottom of the Bermuda-Azores high pressure. Upper level wind shear restricting vertical growth.
Over our corner of the southeast U.S. typical summer weather with convective mainly afternoon thunderstorms, a few isolated severe with hail. On June 30, 1961, I witnessed some of Jacksonville’s largest hailstones bouncing up from my Riverview lawn like popcorn. There were frozen clusters of marble size stones measuring 1 to 2 1/2 inches in diameter! They were reported over many western parts of the city.
