The Pacific hurricane season begins a month earlier than the Atlantic season. The second hurricane of the eastern Pacific will lose strength over mountainous terrain leaving only a shadow of its former self on the Atlantic (Gulf of Mexico) side of Mexico. As a Depression or an unlikely tropical storm, it will still retain the Pacific name BARBARA in the southwest Gulf of Mexico.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially begins Saturday, June 1. High pressure over the tropical Atlantic with shearing upper level winds make tropical storm conditions unfavorable for storm formation over the next 10 days.
