HOW MUCH RAIN HERE NEXT WEEK FROM ISAAC?

Based on Friday’s National Hurricane Center prediction of ISAAC’s track, this is the Monday-Tuesday Rainfall Forecast during the hurricane’s journey across the eastern Gulf Monday and Tuesday to the Florida Panhandle. Adjustments Saturday morning to ISAAC’s predicted intensity and track over the Keys during the weekend indicates rainfall amounts may higher for south Florida than shown here. The rainfall map will be updated late Saturday.

At 2 PM EDT Saturday, Tropical Storm ISAAC was centered 40 miles north of Guantanamo, Cuba. Peak winds were 60 mph and it was moving northwest at 17 mph.

By moving over the Windward Passage between Haiti and Cuba, it will have less interaction with the mountains of Cuba; therefore, it will reach hurricane strength over the Florida Straits before moving across the Florida Keys on Sunday. This will cause hurricane force winds over the southern tip of the Florida peninsula as the center of ISAAC moves into the eastern Gulf of Mexico just off Ft Myers and Punta Gorda.
