Opposite directions may crop up in Debby’s movement during this week.

As expected, the first couple of days of Debby’s movement was a delicate balance between towards Florida or towards Texas. Being closer to Florida was a short term problem, while the longer term Texas solution included many intervening alternatives. The first one is reflected in the shift of the 5 day prediction now towards Louisiana. That forecast is not set in concrete because the atmosphere is a global fluid with many interacting forces and motions.

For now, it the old game of “watching and waiting” to see what transpires. The 2012 hurricane season is still young and there will many other storms ahead. Make sure you have already made your plans and know what you need to do when a storm comes your way.
