THERE WILL BE NO “Q” STORM THIS YEAR!

The tropics are quieting down.

Why no “Q” storm? It’s because there are very few common names that begin with Q,U,X,Y, and Z to place on the lists of hurricane names. There are six lists that are rotated each year. The 2010 list came from the same list that was used in 2004, but you will notice that there is now no Charley, Frances, Ivan, or Julia.

If a storm becomes unusually large or damaging, that name is replaced with another name that starts with the same letter. In 2010, Charley became Colin, Frances became Feona, Ivan became Igor, and Jeanne became Julia.

If another storm is named this year it will go to the letter R for Richard.

Personally I hope not. I’d rather have Nunn!
