NEXT SYSTEM DEVELOPING NORTH OF PUERTO RICO?

Beautiful weather over southeast U.S. to keep storms away.

The tropical wave that has been dumping heavy rains in the Lesser Antilles is likely to spawn tropical storm OTTO; however, steering currents indicate a sharp turn away from the Bahamas and the U.S. this week.

The large mass of clouds about 900 miles east of the Lesser Antilles looks impressive on satellite images, but it is caused by an upper level low pressure that inhibits storm development.

The cloud mass south of Hispaniola in the Caribbean will continue to move west. As we have seen during this hurricane season, and over the years, the western Caribbean is a likely place for weather disturbances to grow into tropical storms. We’ll continue to watch this area.
