BONNIE UNDER A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT

Strong easterly winds aloft are transporting Bonnie's clouds rapidly westward.

After crossing the southern tip of Florida, Bonnie’s future looks dismal over the Gulf of Mexico Saturday. A strong current of upper level easterly winds is keeping the convective clouds from accelerating counter clockwise around the low pressure center which is moving west northwestward away from the Fort Myers area. Only the warmth of the Gulf waters are left to cause the depression to return to tropical storm status. It may briefly return to storm intensity by late Saturday if it continues to maintain a circulation before reaching the forecast track to the northern Gulf coast.

However, I would not be surprised to see the circulation fade into a tropical wave-type trough in the easterly winds over the north central Gulf on Saturday.
