WATCHING THE WEST CARIBBEAN

Tropical wave is escaping upper level wind shear to enter a storm-breeding environment.

The tropical wave is strengthening as it moves from Puerto Rico and Hispaniola into the central Caribbean. It will pass over very warm waters under light, diverging winds aloft. The steamy atmosphere with increasing showers and thunderstorms should cause barometric pressures to fall over the western Caribbean the next few days; consequently, tropical storm formation is likely by the end of the week.

A ridge of high pressure extending from the Atlantic Ocean across northern Florida to the US Gulf coast should steer the developing storm westward toward western Caribbean shores this weekend.
