As we enter the month of October, tropical easterlies shift farther south. The westerlies associated with cooler Canadian air masses combined with the El Nino subtropical westerlies turn our attention more towards the Gulf of Mexico. Westerly winds cause most Atlantic storms to miss our coast, but most of our October storms either develop in the Gulf, or enter the Gulf from the Caribbean.

Every hurricane season is different. The atmosphere is a fluid that is continously changing. Until the hurricane season ends on November 30, we must continue to monitor the various disturbances that form and roam over the the tropical waters.
